Hfbk - University of Fine Arts in Hamburg - Library Design

The Design of the library, developed together with Prof. Jesko Fezer and Prof. Glen Oliver Löw, realised by asdfg architects, is based on the historical tables. They match the existing structure in design and material and their generous proportioning stands in a plausible relation to the library room.
Based on a ground grid, derived from the tables dimensions, new furnitures where designed to add further uses to the library and strengthen the quality of habitation.
The existing tables offer the possibilities to sit, read and do computer work. New presentation elements for books and magazines, a reception desk and leisure areas with sofas and a daybed complement the existing. The ground grid is not just in close ties to the room proportions, it also allows future adjustments to the kind, the amount and the placement of the furnitures, when the new library is actually in use.
